Hair Course: Ingredients To Avoid + Hair Mask DIYs

Hey, beautiful!

Today, we're going to talk about ingredients that should be avoided that are often found in hair products and could be very damaging. Plus, I'm going to give you the key ingredients to make a natural hair mask.

*Ingredients to avoid: ingredients in conditioners are less likely to be absorbed by the hair. However, shampoo is a different story. Some of the ingredients you should look out for are:

1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): often found in shampoo. They're cheap to make foam when lathered but are a major skin irritant. Some studies show these can damage the immune system and, when combined with other ingredients, become carcinogenic.

2. Triethanolamine (TEA): it's not carcinogenic on its own, but it can interact with other chemicals and become carcinogenic.

3. Propylene Glycol: it's thought to cause dermatitis, eczema, hives, and even kidney, liver and brain problems.

*Natural hair masks: every month or so you can take some time and make a hair mask to show your hair a little love.

1. Coconut oil: coat the ends of your hair with a Tbsp of the product and then twist it into a low bun, seal with plastic wrap. Leave it for 30 minutes (minimum) or sleep with it, then wash hair as usual.

2. Avocado: mash up an entire one and mix it with 4 Tbsp of yogurt and 1 egg white. Apply to the ends, leave for 30 minutes (minimum) and rinse.

3. Olive oil and mayonnaise: mix a concoction that's equal parts of mayo and olive oil. Start applying and work your way up, stop short of your scalp. After 30 minutes, wash out.

Remember to give your hair some extra-love every now and then with a moisturizing and nourishing mask.
