Today I’m going to give you a little makeup expiration guide to know when you should stop using certain products that could be damaging to your skin if they've been in your makeup collection for too long.
After you buy
your makeup and you open it, it has a limit during which it’ll still be nice
and just like new. After that time period your makeup will be too old to use and in
some cases, its ingredients can become damaging to your skin. Here are some
products with their expiration limit:
*Mascara (3
months): it needs to
be replaced every 3 months since its liquid consistency makes it more
vulnerable to bacteria and its proximity to your eye can lead to possible
infections.
*Liquid liners
(6 months): because of its liquid consistency they
should be replaced every six months. Pencil eyeliners, however, should last you
up to two years. Sharpen your pencil with each use to keep it fresh.
*Foundation
(6-12 months): for liquid
foundations, say goodbye if you notice any change in smell, texture or color.
Most foundations should last you up to a year, but if you’re prone to acne,
think about changing yours every six months.
*Lipgloss (1 year): because of the liquid
consistency, lipgloss needs to be replaced more often than lipstick.
*Concealer (1
year): the longevity of concealers
depends on consistency. Liquid concealer should be tossed after one year, but
powder concealer is fine up to two years.
*Nail polish (2 years): if you notice a change in
color or a funky smell, it’s time to part ways with your polish. In general, it
should last you up to two years and some have expiration dates on the back of
the bottle.
*Lipstick (2
years): lipstick can last up to two
years, but dispose if it becomes dry or changes hues.
*Any powder (2
years): this means
powder, blush, bronzer and eyeshadow. With proper care and clean brushes,
powder-based products can last long.
