The Do's & Dont's Of Bold Lip Colors

Hey, beautiful!

This week’s posts will both be Valentine’s Day related, because who doesn’t love Valentine’s Day? I do! Hahaha. So with this special day just around the corner, some of you may already be thinking about what you’re wearing and most importantly, what makeup look you’ll be rocking to celebrate the occasion.

A red lip is always the perfect way to go for a simple yet beautiful and put together look, it’s a versatile and empowering color everyone can rock! So even if it’s not for this occasion that you’re wearing a bold lip, take into consideration these next few and basic pointers about what are some do’s and don’ts for a bold lip for the next time you rock a bold lip color.

*Do’s.

-Prep your lips: prepare your lips for a bold lip color by making sure they are exfoliated (a simple DIY lip scrub is brown sugar and honey!) and hydrated. This first step will help the color you wear stay on longer and look better!

-Know your undertone: the easiest way to choose a red lipstick is by knowing your undertone; cool undertones look best with cool reds and warm undertones look the best with warm reds. Here’s a more in-depth blog post on how to choose the right lip color for your skin tone!

-Keep the eyes simple: since you want the lip color on your lips to stand out, have it be the main focus of your whole makeup look by keeping your eye makeup simple. You can never go wrong with a cat eye and red lips!

*Don’ts.

-Skip the liner: wearing a lip liner will give your lips more definition and it’ll prevent your lipstick from bleeding. Go for a liner that is as close to the color of your lipstick as possible and wax-based for better staying power, it won’t smudge as easily!

-Pair with bright colors: it’s all about the balance, so just like with the eyes, keep the rest of your makeup as neutral as possible. Adding vibrant shades to the rest of your makeup will draw the attention away from your lips and everything will likely clash.

-Be afraid to layer: just like you layer clothes, lip products can be layered as well! Layering lip products will help you find new shades that work for you and it’s a great way to get a ton of looks if you have just a few lip products.

That’s it for today’s post… If you’d like to read another do’s and don’ts type of post, here’s one on smokey eye don’ts!

I hope you liked this post and be sure to come back this Thursday for a beautiful Valentine’s Day inspired makeup look

Bye, beautiful!
